Join us at historic Gordon Chapel in Copley Square for a very special concert feautring the Vasilis Kostas and Layth Sidiq Duo, celebrating the launch of their debut album STEPS. A short documentary will be shown illuminating the process of their unique collaboration that blends Jazz, Traditional and Contemporary musical idioms, followed by a live performance presenting music from the album.

Vasilis Kostas

Vasilis Kostas is a Grammy nominated laouto player, composer and educator from Epirus, Greece as well as the artistic director of the New England Greek Orchestra. He has collaborated with renowned artists such as Danilo Perez, Petroloukas Halkias and Sokratis Sinopoulos while performing in prestigious concert halls and festivals such as Carnegie Hall, Montreal Jazz Festival and Panama Jazz Festival.

The Boston Globe and the WBUR have described him as "a great traditional music master of the laouto, who redefines its sound". Vasilis Kostas has been awarded the "Forty Under 40" Award by the Greek America Foundation and the "Artist Fellowship in the Traditional Arts" Award by the Mass Cultural Council for his efforts to advance the role of the laouto in the contemporary music scene and present his musical roots in academic institutions and concert halls across the US and internationally. 

Layth Sidiq

A Jordanian with Iraqi roots, Layth Sidiq is a grammy-nominated violinist, composer, and educator and is the artistic director of the New York Arabic Orchestra and the director of the Center for Arabic Culture's Youth Orchestra Program. He has toured the world and performed with major artists such as Simon Shaheen, Danilo Perez, Jack Dejohnette, Tigran Hamasyan, and others and performed in including the London Jazz Festival, Boston Symphony Hall,  WOMEX Expo, Montreal Jazz Festival, Carnegie Hall, and more.

Layth is featured on multiple award-winning albums and his first record Son of Tigris premiered at the Montreal Jazz Festival in 2016. He is also the lead vocalist and violinist for the new Assassin’s Creed game ‘Mirage’ which will be released in 2023.
